Melbourne City have re-signed Spanish goalkeeper Malena Mieres for the Ninja A-League 2025-26 campaign.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper joined City ahead of the 2024-25 season after four years in Spain’s Liga F, split across stints at Eibar and Real Betis.

Mieres made an instant impact at City, keeping 10 clean sheets in 29 appearances across all competitions as the club sealed the Premiers Plate in an “invincible” unbeaten regular season and made it all the way to the final of the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League campaign.

City were in pursuit of a trophy treble in 2024-25 but after sealing the Ninja A-League Premiership, were unable to secure the AFC Women’s Champions League title or the Ninja A-League Championship.

Mieres (centre) celebrates City’s Premiership triumph after defeating Perth Glory in the regular season.

Returning for another season in City blue, Mieres is using her side’s Semi-Final exit in the domestic competition, as well as the heartbreak of a Champions League Final defeat, as fuel for the upcoming campaign.

“My first season at Melbourne City was so enjoyable, particularly being part of such an amazing group of players,” Mieres said.

“To lift the Premiers Plate and reach the AFC Champions League Final were both incredible moments, but we’re not done yet, and I can’t wait to be back for another season.”

Mieres is the second key player to have re-signed with City this off-season, joining Taylor Otto in recommitting to the club.

City Director of Football Michael Petrillo says Mieres’ re-signing is a “big boost” ahead of 2025-26.

“Malena fit seamlessly into our Women’s program last season, and the qualities she brings as a goalkeeper perfectly suit the way we like to play,” Petrillo said.

“Her return to the club is a big boost as we look to maintain continuity in the squad, which will be key as we continue to push for more success in the seasons ahead.”
