Melbourne City’s goalscoring sensation Jamie Maclaren will make his commentary debut in Saturday’s A-League clash between Western United and his former side Perth Glory.
Maclaren will join Melbourne Victory great Archie Thompson, the man he is chasing down in the A-League scorers’ charts, sitting just 10 goals behind after netting his 80th career goal last week in City’s 2-1 win.
Having played alongside Andy Keogh and new Glory coach Richard Garcia during his two-year stint with Glory (2013-15), the Socceroos striker can provide a unique insight into the WA club who kicked off their campaign with a 5-3 win over Adelaide United last Wednesday.
“I’m honoured and excited that Fox Sports have asked me for some special analysis, it will be new learning for me also to sit, analyse and watch professionals go about their business and dissect stages of the game,” said Maclaren, who played against Western United last week.
Fox Sports were excited to add the 2019-20 A-League Golden Goot winner to the commentary team.
“Jamie’s one of Australian Football’s biggest stars and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the Fox team. Not only is he the A-League’s most dominant player, he’s also an approachable and authentic bloke,” Fox Sports’ football production lead Nick Lockyer said.
Fox Sports commentator Michael Zappone was excited to be working alongside Maclaren and said the A-League sharpshooter would add unique insights to the match commentary.
“Jamie McLaren is a true star of our game and having him on our broadcast this weekend will add a unique insight,” Zappone said.
“He is the reigning Golden Boot winner, a current Socceroo so there are few better to provide analysis and opinion and we look forward to his commentary this Saturday afternoon.”
Western United hosts Glory at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium at 5.05pm AEDT Saturday. Fox Sports’ coverage commences at 4.30pm with the match simulcast on ABC TV (coverage from 5pm). It is followed by the Adelaide United versus Melbourne Victory clash (7.40pm AEDT kick-off).
