Bulls bring ‘prolific’ striker to Campbelltown after playing for some of Mexico’s biggest teams

Macarthur Bulls have added goals to their attacking unit ahead of the new Isuzu UTE A-League season with the signing of Mexican striker Rafael Durán Martinez.

Martinez forward heads to Campbelltown Stadium having spent his entire career playing in Mexico’s top two divisions.

A former Mexico Under-21 international, Martinez has registered 87 goals playing for the likes of Tigres, Puebla FC and most recently CF Atlante.

Furthermore the Tigres academy product arrives in Australia with plenty of trophy-winning experience having lifted both the Mexican Campeón de Campeones and the Campeones Cup with Tigres UANL.

“It feels so good to sign with this club, it’s a big experience for my wife and I,” said Martinez after signing his new deal.

“I’m thankful for the coach and CEO for the faith to allow me to sign with the Bulls.”

“It’s a new challenge for me, coming to Australia. I’ve heard it’s a great country to live in, and the Isuzu UTE A-League is a competitive league so I’m very excited to be here.”

“I promise to do my best, work hard every day and I hope to help the team achieve big things to be champions.”

The 28-year-old will now compete with the likes of Harrison Sawyer and recent off-season signing Ji Dong-won for a starting spot in head coach Mile Sterjovski’s side.

Martinez also becomes the Bulls’ seventh signing of the off-season following the acquisitions of former Sunderland striker Ji, ex-Melbourne Victory defender Damien Da Silva, Socceroos midfielder Anthony Caceres (Sydney FC) and Melbourne City duo Callum Talbot and Harry Politidis.

Furthermore, the signing of Martinez will add plenty of depth to Sterjovski’s squad as they prepare to challenge in both the Isuzu UTE A-League and the AFC Champions League Two competitions this season.
