Mabil on the move in Denmark

Former Adelaide United winger Awer Mabil has completed a season long loan move to Danish outfit Esbjerg from parent club FC Midtjylland.

The 20-year-old has struggled for game time in the Danish Superliga since joining the 2014/15 champions on a five-year deal in July 2015.

Mabil had been linked with a return home to the Reds but will instead hope to spark Esbjerg’s season, with the club having lost their first three matches of the new campaign.

The young attacker could make his debut as soon as Monday, where he could come up against fellow Olyroo Mustafa Amini, who secured a permanent move to AGF during the off-season.

“Mabil has played for FC Midtjylland, but the competition in the team is fierce and we hope he can realise his potential and deliver at Esbjerg,” Esbjerg coach Colin Todd told the club’s website.

“He is a right winger with speed and can make things happen. Additionally, he has a good work ethic and mentality.”

Mabil only made nine appearances in all competitions for Midtjylland last season and had not been included in their matchday squad so far this term.
