He’s only been there for a day but Gosford is already gripped by Luis Garcia fever ahead of the Spaniard’s Hyundai A-League debut for Central Coast Mariners on Saturday night.
There’s been a buzz on the Coast since it was announced the ex-Liverpool star was joining the club, and it’s only heightened since his arrival on Thursday.
The back page of the local paper was dedicated to Garcia, while a number telegraph poles and street signs were emblazoned with posters welcoming the Spanish whiz to the Central Coast.
It’s on the pitch though where coach Tony Walmsley expects to get the most out of the club’s marquee signing, anticipating a huge influence on the Mariners’ exciting crop of youngsters.
“My expectations are really high because of where he’s been. You can’t play where Luis has played and not bring a lot to the young players that we have in our group,” the Mariners boss said.
“They need leadership on the pitch and Luis is going to give us that from every training session and every time he puts the boots on on match day.”
