Newcastle Jets have signed Malta youth international Lucas Scicluna on a scholarship deal for the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season.
The 19-year-old initially joined the Jets in July after a stint at F3 rivals Central Coast Mariners, where he featured four times in the league in 2024-25.
Scicluna has been a part of Newcastle’s youth team since his arrival at the club and made his senior debut off the bench against Adelaide United in the Australia Cup.

The younger brother of Western Sydney Wanderers star Dylan, Scicluna is an exciting squad acquisition for Jets head coach Mark Milligan, who sees a bright future for the Malta Under-21 midfielder.
“Lucas came to our NPL team late in the season and hit the ground running,” Milligan said.
“Lucas is another we see with a bright future ahead in this game and feel he will thrive and add to the current environment and culture both as a footballer and a person.”
Scicluna joins Xavier Bertoncello as Newcastle’s second scholarship signing of the off-season. He’s the seventh player to receive a fresh contract at the Jets ahead of the 2025-26 season alongside Bertoncello and new arrivals Alex Badolato, Max Burgess, Joe Shaughnessy, James Delianov and Joel Bertolisio.
“I’m buzzing to have signed with the Newcastle Jets for the upcoming season,” Scicluna said.
“I can’t thank the coaching staff enough for giving me the opportunity. I’m really looking forward to working hard, learning and playing my best football here at the Jets.”
