Three minutes, two goals and one monster fantasy haul for a returning Sky Blue

Max Burgess returned to Sydney FC’s starting XI for the first time since Round 2 as the Sky Blues took on Newcastle Jets in Round 13 – and after an injury-interrupted start to the campaign, the attacking midfielder was back in a big way.

Burgess registered an assist and two goals – scored in the space of three minutes – in a dominant display against the Jets, inspiring the Sky Blues to a 4-0 win.

Burgess had tallied just 10 fantasy points across his six appearances for the season before taking on Newcastle – and significantly increased that total with a 37-point haul in Round 13.

Apostolos Stamatelopoulos thrust himself into the Team of the Week with his two-goal performance for Newcastle Jets against Brisbane Roar on Tuesday night.

The Golden Boot contender made it 10 goals in 12 games as he scored 31 points – a tally only bettered by Burgess in Round 13. It his best fantasy return this season.

Rounding out the Team of the Week are two other forwards – Sydney FC’s Joe Lolley and in-form Central Coast Mariners star Angel Torres, to go with four midfielders and three defenders – including Jordan Courtney-Perkins of the Sky Blues who put up his best tally of 2023-24 with 22.

Glory custodian’s penalty heroics lead to league-best haul in Round 13

Perth Glory’s fast start to the 2023-24 Liberty A-League season has stalled of late, with the former league-leaders dropping into third on the table on a six-game run which has produced just one win.

But amid her team’s mini-form slump, Glory keeper Morgan Aquino has only gotten better in recent weeks, as she continues to keep Young Matildas custodian Sally James on the bench.

Aquino made a penalty save and kept a clean sheet in Perth’s 0-0 draw with Brisbane Roar on Saturday night, earning 26 fantasy points to lead the Round 13 Fantasy Team of the Week.

As a fantasy prospect, there’s no better goalkeeper in the competition this season. Aquino has scored 142 points through 13 games – 30 more than the next highest-scoring keeper – and is fifth on the total points chart league-wide.

Aquino is joined in the Team of the Week by five midfielders, three defenders and two strikers; Canberra forward Michelle Heyman was the only other player to score more than 20 points in Round 13, with her 23-point haul a result of a brilliant brace against Melbourne Victory.
