Western Sydney Wanderers have re-signed club captain and Socceroos goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas on a two-year contract extension set to run to the end of the 2026-27 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign.
The 32-year-old first joined the club in 2022 and has made 62 league appearances in Red & Black.
After nine seasons at Melbourne Victory between 2011 and 2020, Thomas spent two years abroad at Danish club SønderjyskE before returning to the Isuzu UTE A-League at his hometown club.

Originally from Toongabbie in Western Sydney, Thomas slotted in seamlessly at the Wanderers, winning the competition’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award in 2022-23 – his first campaign at the club.
Now, after more than 70 appearances in all competitions for the Wanderers, Thomas is set to remain at the club until mid-2027 on a deal head coach Alen Stajcic describes as a statement of intent for a team currently surging toward a top-four finish in the 2024-25 campaign off the back of an eight-game unbeaten run.
“Lawrence’s re-signing is a clear statement on the direction we want to go as a football club,” Stajcic said.
“A local Western Sydney boy that has shown not only outstanding ability as a footballer, but more importantly as a leader showing loyalty, passion, humility and care for our club and community.
“Without question, Lawrence is one of the best leaders I have seen in Australian football in the modern era, and I am sure he will lead the club to a brilliant and successful era.”
Thomas was named club captain ahead of the 2024-25 campaign and, after signing a two-year extension, expressed his pride in leading the club into what he believes will be a bright and successful future.

“It means everything to me to wear the armband and represent this club,” said Thomas.
“Western Sydney is home, and I’m incredibly grateful to be able to play in front of family, friends, and the passionate Red & Black supporters.
“To be given the opportunity to stay for another two years is something I don’t take for granted. I’ve loved every moment of my time here — the people, the culture, the fans — and I genuinely believe we’re building something special.
“I’m proud to be part of this next chapter and excited to help drive the team forward both on and off the pitch.”
Thomas and the Wanderers are next in Isuzu UTE A-League action this weekend as they host Western United at CommBank Stadium on Sunday, April 13.
