Mark Milligan steps down from national team job amid A-Leagues links

Mark Milligan has stepped down as Malaysia assistant coach to “pursue an opportunity abroad”.

Milligan leaves his position with the world number 131 after two months amid speculation over a return to the Isuzu UTE A-League, where the retired Socceroo was previously assistant at Adelaide United.

The 39-year-old, who was lured to Malaysia by Australian head coach Peter Cklamovski, has been linked with Newcastle Jets following confirmation Rob Stanton will leave at the end of the season.

“I would like to take this moment to acknowledge and thank Mark Milligan for his contributions to Harimau Malaya National Team,” said Cklamovski.

“Although his tenure was brief, he helped us take our first step as a team in an important time preparing for our first match vs Nepal.

“We understand and support his decision to pursue an opportunity abroad, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
