La Rocca gets four-game ban

Western Sydney Wanderers Iacopo La Rocca has been suspended for four games, following his elbow on Sydney FC midfielder Terry Antonis.

Western Sydney Wanderers Iacopo La Rocca has been suspended for four games, following his elbow on Sydney FC midfielder Terry Antonis.

La Rocca was sent off in the 90th minute of an action-packed Sydney derby on Saturday night, after he elbowed Antonis in the face during a challenge for the ball. The Italian left the field to cheers from some of his club-s supporters, while Antonis was only allowed back with his head heavily bandaged.

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) met on Monday, handing down the four-match ban.

Sydney FC midfielder Brett Emerton has also been punished for his red card tackle on Shannon Cole, with the MRP issuing the Qantas Socceroo with a one-match ban, meaning he will miss Sydney-s crunch game against Brisbane on Friday.

The MRP found:

1. The incident involving Brett Emerton (Sydney FC) in or around the 57th minute of Sydney FC-s match against Western Sydney Wanderers FC on Saturday night. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as the Player was issued with a direct red card. The MRP confirmed that Brett Emerton will serve the Minimum Sanction of one (1) match, being the Mandatory Match Suspension.

2. The incident involving Iacopo La Rocca (Western Sydney Wanderers FC) in or around the 95th minute of Western Sydney Wanderers FC-s match against Sydney FC on Saturday night. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as the Player was issued with a direct red card. The MRP has proposed that Iacopo La Rocca serve a sanction of four (4) matches, being the one (1) Mandatory Match Suspension plus an additional sanction of three (3) matches.

Under the A-League Disciplinary Regulations, the Player or the Club may refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee for hearing and Determination of the sole question of what additional sanction should be imposed (above the Mandatory Match Suspension which must be served), applying the Range at the Table of Offences.
