Kurz fears ‘serious’ injury for Nabbout as Victory casualties mount

Andrew Nabbout is set for a spell on the sidelines, according to Melbourne Victory boss Marco Kurz.

Victory’s 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar in Friday evening’s Hyundai A-League clash was soured by the sight of Nabbout limping off with a hamstring injury in the first half.

He’ll now join Caltex Socceroos teammate Robbie Kruse (hamstring) and German international Tim Hoogland (quad) in the Victory casualty ward.

Nabbout, 26, scored the game’s only goal in the 19th minute before was withdrawn in the 35th for Kenny Athiu.

“He’s a high-speed player, that means when he finishes the game after a sprint, it must be some serious injury,” Kurz said.

“I can’t say. I expect that we will miss him maybe a couple of games.”

Victory’s depth is set to be tested with both Kurz’s Australian international forwards Nabbout and Kruse hamstrung.

“It’s a chance for the other players,” Kurz said.

“We have a big squad. Every player wants to play and now they have a chance to perform. It’s true we are missing not only Andrew and Robbie (Kruse), also (Tim) Hoogland, who are for us very important players.

“That can be always during the season, now we have to fight for the team-mates to get points in the next games.”
