Albanian striker Mensur Kurtishi struck five times as Brisbane Roar beat Olympic FC 10-0 at Goodwin Park on Wednesday night.
Returning midfielder Matt McKay, playing for the first time since the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a cheeky lob over Olympic goalkeeper Shannon Lancini before Liam Miller doubled the away side’s advantage, following up from close range after Kurtishi’s shot was blocked.
Kurtishi then found himself in the thick of the action, scoring four goals in 20 minutes before half-time – twice finding the back of the net with his head and twice slotting home after a couple of well-timed through balls from his midfield comrades.
Dimitri Petratos scored a stunning free-kick in the 37th minute, rounding out a 7-0 score line over the NPL Queensland Grand Finalists heading into the half-time break.
Head Coach Mike Mulvey introduced Steven Lustica and on-loan signing Adam Sarota after the hour mark and it was the #8 who teed up Kurtishi for his fifth of the night in the 66th minute.
It worsened for the home side and in the 73rd minute, Olympic FC’s Ryota Nakaoka brought down Thomas Broich inside the box. When Jade North’s effort from the penalty spot hit the cross bar, the central defender reacted quickly to find Petratos with the rebound, allowing the young striker to score his second.
With five minutes left to play, substitute Jean Carlos Solorzano’s quick throw in found Thomas Broich and the stand-in skipper cleverly cut inside an Olympic defender to tee up Lustica for his side’s 10th of the night.
Brisbane Roar now turn their focus to Round 1 of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season, hosting Adelaide United next Sunday, 12 October at Suncorp Stadium.
