Kisnorbo named City skipper

Melbourne City FC coach, John van’t Schip, has announced the appointment of Patrick Kisnorbo as captain for the Hyundai A-League 2014-15 season.

Set to lead John van’t Schip’s side out against Sydney FC in Round 1 next Saturday, Melbourne-born Kisnorbo said he was delighted.

“I’m very humbled, honoured and proud to be appointed captain of Melbourne City FC,” Kisnorbo said.

“We have a strong squad here that includes a great mix of youth, experience, local and international talent, and it is a privilege to be asked to lead it.  It is an important responsibility and something I am looking forward to taking on.

He added: “It has been a really exciting and productive off-season; the boys have worked hard as a group and we are expecting a competitive A-League season.”

Kisnorbo has worn the captain’s armband in a number of pre-season matches, including the club’s most recent friendly hit-out against Perth Glory, and also previously in his career for English clubs Leicester City and Leeds United.

Head Coach John van’t Schip said Kisnorbo was a natural leader on and off the pitch and was the perfect fit to lead the squad in the 2014-15 season.

“Patrick consistently shows the leadership qualities that we look for and expect in a captain and his readiness to lead the team is evident,” van’t Schip said.

“His experience will be invaluable as he leads the side into this important season.”

Melbourne City FC commences its Hyundai A-League campaign with an away match against Sydney FC next Saturday 11 October at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.

The team’s first home game against the Newcastle Jets takes place at AAMI Park in Melbourne on 19 October.
