Kerr hat-trick stuns Sky Blues

Sydney FC fell 5-0 to a rampant Perth Glory side at WIN Stadium in Wollongong, with Samantha Kerr returning to haunt her old team as she scored a hat trick to guide the Premiers to the tenth win of their campaign.

In wet conditions in Wollongong the Glory proved why they’re the 2014 Premiers as they put on a slick passing display to put Sydney FC to the sword.

In an end to end opening period both sides had chances to score, with Renee Rollason seeing a cross-cum-shot cleared off the line, while Casey Dumont was kept busy at the other end as she twice denied the Glory the opening goal.

The deadlock was broken on the 7th minute as ex-Sky Blues Foord and Kerr combined to see the latter slide in the opening goal at the far post.

Not to be perturbed the Sky Blues went in search of an equaliser as Amy Harrison rattled the woodwork with an audacious chip from distance before Gill doubled the Glory’s lead from the penalty spot in the 25th minute.

On the stroke of half time Gill doubled her tally as she lashed in a low shot from outside the area as Sydney FC went in at half time three goals down.

Kerr then put the game to bed 10 minutes after the restart as she surged forward, shrugged off a couple of Sydney FC challenges and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Kyah Simon was introduced for her first competitive football since her ACL injury in the 66th minute while Amy Harrison tried her best to get Sydney FC back into the contest with a number of inventive runs.

Harrison managed to sting the palms of Arnold in the Glory goal with a wicked strike from inside the area in the 67th minute before Sam Kerr rounded out the scoring moments later, as she received the ball on the edge of the area and sent a delicate chip over Dumont’s head and into the net.

Sydney FC were unable to muscle a fight back as the full time whistle sounded with the Glory cementing their spot at the top of the table five nil.

The Sky Blues are next in action at Lambert Park on Saturday 6th December where they play Newcastle Jets while the Glory play away against Canberra United on Sunday.
