Kasey Wehrman is a man on a mission.

The midfielder is racing the clock to join his Newcastle Jets team mates as he continues a hefty rehabilitation program to overcome recent surgery on his left ankle to clean up a bone spur.

“So far so good,” Wehrman said.

“Everything is tracking well at this stage and I-m only a few weeks away from running again.”

Wehrman explains he is training in the gym on a daily basis in a committed effort to get back on the training paddock.

“You name it, I-m doing it. Bike, Air Walker, specific exercises,” he added.

“No slacking off.”

Jokes aside, Wehrman says the Jets pre-season form is no laughing matter.

Spectacular recent appearances against New South Wales Premier League teams, Sutherland and Bankstown have supporters in anticipation over the 2011/12 A-League season as Coach Branko Culina prepares his side for more trials against top grade competition.

“Watching the team so far we are looking good. Pre-season training has been positive and we are performing well on the park but we are also looking forward to testing ourselves against some A-League competition, starting with Melbourne next week,” said Wehrman.

“This will be our best indication of how we are traveling and what we need to do to improve before the season proper.

“We have some great new additions to this year-s squad, especially Tiago. He-s fitting in perfectly and is a pleasure to have around. He-s a real hit with the other players.

“If he continues at the pace and form he is currently showing he-ll be a big plus this season for us and certain to be a crowd favourite.”

Wehrman has circled a date on the calendar for his likely return and Jets supporters can rest assured he-ll be back in action the moment he receives clearance from club medical staff.

“I hope that will be in the next few weeks and I-m looking forward to the local clash in Cessnock for our trial against Sydney FC.”
