Melbourne Victory have bolstered their attacking weaponry by signing 27-year-old winger Bruce Kamau – who returns to the Isuzu UTE A-League after over a year in Greece.
Kamau joins Victory until the end of the 2022-23 season on loan from Greek Super League side OFI Crete, where he made 25 appearances and scored one goal in all competitions.
His arrival helps Tony Popovic’s side replenish its forward-half stocks following the season-ending injury to Luis Nani and Nick D’Agostino’s move to Norwegian side Viking.
“I’m thrilled to be heading back to the A-League with Melbourne Victory and looking forward to joining the team and helping them achieve success this season,” Kamau said.
“I’ll be looking to use this period to give everything I have for the Club and the fans and to help lift Melbourne Victory to where they belong.”
Prior to moving to Europe, Kamau made a name for himself playing for three different A-League Men’s outfits – Adelaide United, Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers. – tallying 135 appearances.
The winger broke onto the scene at the Reds, famously scoring the opening goal in Adelaide’s famous 2016 Grand Final victory over Western Sydney Wanderers.
Kamau shortly after made the move to City where he helped them to their first piece of silverware in the Australia Cup (then, FFA Cup) – playing 83 minutes in their 1-0 win against Sydney FC in the final.
His City stay lasted only two seasons, before heading to the Wanderers for three years – where he scored nine goals in his final season at the club prior to jetting over to Europe.
“Bruce is a talented forward who has proved himself at A-League level and we’re looking forward to bringing his experience and attributes into our side,” Popovic said.
“Bruce has spent some time in a European league to progress as a footballer and we believe the environment at Melbourne Victory will allow us to bring the best out of him.”
Kamau will be available for selection for their clash with Wellington Phoenix on Friday night.
