Wellington Phoenix coach Darije Kalezic admits a lack of depth in attack is preventing his team from taking the next step in the Hyundai A-League.
The hosts lost Roy Krishna to a hamstring problem for Saturday’s clash against Adelaide United and his absence was keenly felt as they slipped to a 1-0 home defeat.
Young midfielder Alex Rufer hit the crossbar with his team’s only real chance at Westpac Stadium, ensuring they missed a chance to climb off the foot of the ladder.
“We were not good enough at the front, dangerous enough at the front, to create more chances and score goals. That’s the story of the game,” Kalezic told Sky Sport NZ.
“We created a lot of possibilities in one-on-ones and space behind the [defensive] line but we were not powerful enough.”
But having seen the Kiwi outfit take seven points from their previous three matches, Kalezic is refusing to be frustrated by the available resources.
“We have what we have. We have to accept it,” he said.
“Not accept and be negative but accept and work to be positive, to try to develop the squad and players.
“I am happy with how they work every day and how the team is developing.”
