Juric admits Sydney Derby loss “was our fault”

Western Sydney Wanderers FC striker Tomi Juric has conceded their Round 2 defeat to Sydney FC last month was the players’ fault, and they’re desperate to atone on Saturday night at Wanderland.

“We know that (first derby) game was our fault,” said Juric, who watched from the Allianz Stadium stands due to injury as the Sky Blues notched a famous 3-2 comeback win.

“We were disappointed in that performance especially in the second half, we got frustrated toward the end and we made a few bad decisions which didn’t help us.

“(But) we’re very confident in this game, coming off two good performances and while the (wins) didn’t come we’re still confident.

“It’s crucial for us (to win). To do it this weekend in this kind of game and in these conditions would be even more sweeter.”

The two teams meet at Wanderland this Saturday night in the second Sydney Derby of the season.

And confidence is slowly coming back for the red and black forward.

Juric scored the decisive first leg goal in the club’s recent and incredible ACL triumph over Al-Hilal.

And the Socceroo bagged his first goal of the season in the Hyundai  A-League last weekend with a cracking volley against Newcastle Jets.

He admits that strike has given him a timely confidence-boost and is also excited by the side’s new-look attacking quartet alongside new-boys Vitor Saba, Romeo Castelen and Nikita Rukavytsya.

“It’s something new that were all still getting used to,” Juric admitted.

“It’s looking the goods for now but hopefully we can tweak up a few things and it will give us a few more attacking options.

“For me (my goal against the Jets) lifts the confidence a bit and gives me a good backing going into this game.”
