Newcastle Jets boss Mark Jones rued a few defensive lapses which cost his side dearly in Saturday night’s five-goal thriller against Perth Glory.
The Jets missed the chance to cement their spot in the top six after losing 3-2 in a see-sawing affair at nib Stadium.

Spaniard Diego Castro was the star, scoring a first-half brace for Glory – either side of Andrew Hoole’s excellent header.
Adam Taggart gave the home side a two-goal lead on the hour-mark before Jason Hoffman’s long-range stunner almost sparked a Jets comeback.
“We did enough with the ball to score a couple of goals and we had enough possession to win the game but we were disappointing defensively,” Jones said.
“A draw or a win would have put us in a very good position. We were confident enough to come here and get something from the game so it’s very disappointing.
“It was a decent comeback I guess, every time we went down we came back but you concede three goals it’s very hard to win a game.”
Jones conceded Castro was the difference on the night but feels his side should have dealt with the Spanish maestro better.
“He’s [Castro] a good footballer. But still we should have done a better job,” the Jets boss said.
“We didn’t do a good enough job 1 v 1…and it was a silly penalty to give away [for the first goal].”
The defeat means Newcastle has dropped to seventh ahead of next weekend’s home clash with Melbourne Victory.
