John Aloisi addresses his future with high-flying Western United

Western United head coach John Aloisi revealed he is in discussions with the Isuzu UTE A-League club regarding a new contract but insisted he is “happy with the situation”.

Aloisi is out of contract at the end of the current season – a campaign which has seen a youthful and exciting Western emerge as a title contender in 2024-25, with the team third heading into Saturday’s blockbuster clash against leaders Auckland FC.

Ahead of this weekend’s mouth-watering showdown in Tarneit after Western routed Auckland 4-0 in the reverse fixture, Aloisi was asked if he was in discussions with the club about his future and whether he wanted to continue at Ironbark Fields.

“I am speaking to the club,” Aloisi told reporters.

“My contract is up but at the moment, I’m not too worried about it because I know I’m happy with the situation.

“We’re looking to keep on building. There’s a lot to it. It’s not just straight forward of re-signing. there’s things you want to make sure that are in place.

“But at the moment, my main focus is to make sure we continue to do well and develop these players. That’s why we’re able to have this season so far, we created that foundation last season. We are doing the same for next season.

“Whenever there’s talk of retaining players or bringing players in, I’m well and truly part of that.”
