Jets too strong for Adelaide

The Newcastle Jets returned to menacing form, claiming an impressive 4-0 away over the Lady Reds as they look to book a spot in the finals. They never took their foot off the pedal and stormed home to an impressive win.

Newcastle Jets struck first in the 28th minute from some impressive play. After breaking a strong Lady Reds press, Newcastle’s Tara  Andrews delivered a precise pass to Victoria Huster who calmly placed the ball past keeper Melissa Barbieri.

The visitors weren’t complacent as they doubled their lead just before the stroke of half time. After soaking up some defensive pressure, Newcastle broke into space and gave Jets favourite Emily van Egmond a chance she didn’t pass up.

The Lady Reds tested Jets keeper Georgia Yeoman Dale but were just lacking in the final third.

The second half started in the same fashion as the first as Newcastle scored their third thanks to a cool finish from Rhali Dobson in the 48th minute.

The Newcastle midfield controlled the tempo to their liking as it was clear the Lady Reds were in desperate need of a goal. They improved on their final third delivery but ultimately were let down by their finishing.

At the other end, Newcastle were ruthless in their approach and scored their fourth in the 74th minute. After the Lady reds failed to clear a corner it was Dobson again who hit a first time volley straight into the back of the net.

Newcastle play Sydney FC next week in what should be an important game for final placing’s while the Lady Reds travel to play Melbourne Victory.
