Newcastle Jets have inflicted Melbourne City’s first defeat of the Hyundai A-League pre-season in a behind-closed-doors friendly in Melbourne on Wednesday.

*The Jets prevailed 3-1 thanks to first half goals from Andrew Nabbout, Roy O’Donovan and Joe Champness.
*City responded after the break through defender Michael Jakobsen with a powerful header from a corner.
*Tim Cahill, who was named in Ange Postecoglou’s 23-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers, started for City.
*City almost pulled another goal back late on but Scott Jamieson hit the post with a header from close range.
