Gary van Egmond has moved to strengthen the Newcastle Jets defence, signing Swiss defender Dominik Ritter to a one-year contract.
Ritter has been playing for FC Winterthur since 2009/10. Prior to this, the 23-year-old came through the system at FC Basel, where he played in their Under 21s team and then also for the first team squad.
“Dominik can play as fullback, which is his preferred position, or a left side stopper,” coach Gary van Egmond explains.
“He has a lot of pace, he will suit our style of play and we will have good competition for spots in the backs.
“He is at a good age to be coming here, he has his best years ahead of him and we look forward to welcoming him to Newcastle and having him at the Jets.”
“I am looking forward to arriving in Newcastle and settling in at the Jets,” Ritter said.
“It will be a great challenge to come and play for the Newcastle Jets in the A-League and I can’t wait.”
With Ritter-s signing, the Jets are getting closer to completing their squad for season 2012/13.
“Any positions we sign from here will be in the front-third,” van Egmond added.
