Jets sign Jeronimo from Reds

The Newcastle Jets have signed Argentinian forward Jeronimo Neumann until the conclusion of 2015/16 Hyundai A-League season.

Jeronimo joins the Jets after spending the past two seasons at Adelaide United, where he scored 16 goals in 48 appearances for the Reds.

The 28-year-old previously played in his home country for River Plate, San Lorenzo, Instituto, Estudiantes and Independiente Rivadavia. He also had a one-year stint at English Football League Club Barnsley in 2010/11.

Jeronimo said he is looking forward to linking up with his new teammates in the Hunter.

“Phil (Stubbins) contacted me to tell me the ideas he had for the Club and I was excited to be part of it,” Jeronimo said.

“My job is to score goals and give 100 per cent for the team every time I am on the field, so hopefully myself and my teammates can help Newcastle finish in a strong position on the table.

“I am very happy to join the Jets and I’m looking forward to getting started and doing my best for the fans.”

Newcastle Jets head coach Phil Stubbins said the arrival of Jeronimo in Newcastle was a big coup for the Club.

“Jeronimo is a very interesting player because he can play in numerous positions,” Stubbins said.

“I see him as a second striker who can chip in with a very good goal return and I think he’ll complement the other strikers that we’ve got in Joel Griffiths and Edson Montano very nicely.

“He certainly comes with a good reputation and we believe he will only enhance the culture we’re building here.

“Speaking to him face-to-face, he’s very excited to join the Jets and I’m sure our Members are looking forward to seeing what attributes he can bring to Newcastle.”
