Newcastle Jets have reclaimed a spot in the Hyundai A-League’s top six after stunning Brisbane Roar 3-2 at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.
A late goal from Morten Nordstrand proved to be the winner after Jamie Maclaren looked to have earned his side a share of the spoils from the penalty spot.
In a weekend that had already featured some sublime strikes Tommy Oar and Andrew Hoole added two more to the highlights reel in the opening stanza.
Roar’s Socceroo winger lashed home a volley from the top of the box on the quarter hour mark – his first since his return to the club – to open the scoring.
Not to be outdone Hoole got the visitors back in the match on the cusp of half-time with a cracking strike from distance – his second in three weeks.
Jets midfielder Wayne Brown departed the contest at the break to dash to hospital after his wife went in labour, with Chinese import Ma Leilei entering the fray.
A strong header from Andrew Nabbout gave Newcastle the lead midway through the second-half, with Maclaren and Nordstrand trading goals to round out a five goal thriller.
The result sees Newcastle move back up to sixth on the table, while John Aloisi’s side remain fourth following back-to-back losses.
