A late revival from Newcastle Jets saw Ernie Merrick’s men earn a point in a 1-1 draw with Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The Wanderers were playing their third game in a week after their midweek FFA Cup semi final loss, but they dominated most of the game till the Jets’ late rearguard.

The Jets fans gave their injured number 8 Ronnie Vargas a standing round of applause on the eighth minute.

But it didn’t help the hosts as the Wanderers looked the sharper of the two sides, with Jumpei and Llorente causing havoc. WSW took a deserved lead on 16 minutes.

The Jets worked their way back into the contest and found an equaliser with 22 minutes to go to set up a grandstand finish.

Newcastle finished the stronger of the two sides creating a number of excellent chances thanks to the energy of substitute Joey Champness.

Jumpei with the trickery into the box, bedazzling the defenders before his shot hit a defender and the ball fell to Bridge – coolly the former Jet curled a powerful drive past Jack Duncan to open the scoring.
Petratos, Jets 68′: 1-1
Hoffman with the burst down WSW’s left and his cross was met by O’Donovan whose power strike was parried by Janjetovic – Petratos was first to the loose ball to guide it home.
