Newcastle Jets members and supporters are being urged to help celebrate the life of former Club midfielder Bernardo Ribeiro at this Sunday’s Hyundai A-League’s 2016/17 Season Round 1 match against Adelaide United.
Ribeiro passed away in May after falling ill during a fixture in his homeland, Brazil.
Ribeiro played with the Jets throughout the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 Season, making six appearances in the competition.
Sunday 9 October, the date of the Jets’ first match of the 2016/17 Season this weekend, would have been Ribeiro’s 27th Birthday.
All Jets Members & fans are being encouraged to applaud during the 10th minute of the fixture in recognition of the life of the player who also played in Albania and Finland during his career.
10 is the number Ribeiro wore during his time at the Club.
Ribeiro’s wife, Katie, will attend the fixture as a guest of the Club, and the applause will be led by the Squadron who this season will be permanently based behind the goals at the Southern End of Hunter Stadium.
Bernardo Ribeiro was a teammate of Ben Kennedy, Ben Kantarovski, Andrew Hoole, Jack Duncan and Mitch Cooper during his time at the Club.
