Jets re-sign young shot-stopper

Newcastle Jets have rewarded goalkeeper Jack Duncan for a breakout campaign in the Hyundai A-League with a one-season contract extension.

Duncan, who made 73 saves in 25 appearances last term, is now contracted to the men from McDonald Jones Stadium until May 2019.

The former Australian youth international was already contracted to the Jets for next season.

Jets keeper Jack Duncan comes out to claim a cross under pressure from Victory winger Marco Rojas.

Until last season 24-year-old Duncan had played a largely supporting role as back up custodian to shot-stoppers at the Jets, in Western Australia at Perth Glory, and in the Danish Superliga with Randers.

However the gifted gloveman demonstrated that he can mix it with Hyundai A-League’s best last campaign, and his outstanding performances have earned him an extended stay with Ernie Merrick’s charges.

“With only ten teams in the Hyundai A-League it can be really difficult to break through as a goalkeeper in Australia,” Duncan said.

“I relished having the challenge of ‘BK’ (Ben Kennedy) last pre-season and then having a full season to establish myself in the team.”

“Next season will be about pushing on personally and trying to help the team win as many games as possible.”

“With Glen (Moss) coming to the Club we will have another experienced goalkeeper in the goalkeeper’s union alongside (coach) Jess (Vanstrattan) and myself. Us three being able to work with each other and progress and improve is something that I am really looking forward to,” Duncan said.
