Jets to play Edgeworth FC in friendly

Newcastle Jets’ Hyundai A-League pre-season calendar has had another match added to it with confirmation that the club will play Northern NSW PS4 National Premier League 2016 Premiers Edgeworth FC in a friendly fixture on Sunday 11 September 2016.

The friendly, which has been scheduled to kick-off at 3:00pm at Edgeworth’s Jack McLaughlan Oval, will assist both clubs in their preparations for their respective national league tilts.

The Jets are of course working towards the commencement of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season in October, while Edgeworth will face PS4 NPL Victoria Premiers Bentleigh Greens in Victoria on the weekend of 17/18 September in the PS4 NPL Finals 2016 Series.

Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer Lawrie McKinna said that the club has worked with Edgeworth FC as well as Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) to facilitate the friendly.

“It was unfortunate that our friendly match against the PS4 NPL NNSW Select was washed out due to terrible weather in July,” McKinna said. “However as an alternative for the local football community we have been able to work with Edgeworth FC and NNSWF to schedule this trial match instead.”

“Hopefully this friendly game will be of benefit to both squads, and it will definitely provide the opportunity for us to engage with the local football community and our Members,” he said.

Edgeworth FC President Warren Mills said his club is excited to host the Jets at their home ground.

“Edgeworth is part of a huge growth area for football, so it is great that the Jets will be coming to play a match at Jack McLaughlan Oval,” Mills said. “We’re sure that there will be a big crowd at the game because the kids around the club are already talking about it.”
