Newcastle Jets have kicked off their pre-season tour of Northern NSW with a big win over a Mid North Coast select XI on Tuesday night.
In front of more than 4000 fans in Port Macquarie, the Jets had too much class for the locals running out 7-0 winners.
Playmaker Devante Clut was the star for Ernie Merrick’s side, scoring a spectacular first-half brace as the Jets led 5-0 at half-time.
Scholarship holder Joe Champness and defender Ivan Vujica also got on the scoresheet before the break while the best goal of the opening half came from Nick Cowburn with a scorching free-kick from almost 30 yards out.
Substitutes Roy O’Donovan and Nikolai Topor-Stanley also found the net in the last 15 minutes to complete the rout and provide the perfect response after the club’s Westfield FFA Cup exit last week.
