Following the termination of Newcastle Jets coach Branko Culina-s contract on Tuesday, the players returned to training that afternoon under the guidance of NYL coach Craig Deans.
“We have a game in four days and that is our priority at the moment,” captain Jobe Wheelhouse said.
“We are all very strong minded, we have been together a long time now and we will get through it.
“We have been involved with (Craig) Deansy for a long time, he will take over for the time being and we all respect him and he respects us so I think that is the main thing.”
Deans will prepare the team for this weekend-s game and do what is required whilst the Clubs works through the process to find a replacement.
“I am happy to fill in until we find the right Coach,” Deans said.
“We have done all the work in the pre-season and the boys understand the game plan and understand their individual roles and their roles as groups, defenders, midfielders and attackers so we just need to make sure they stay focused and keep pushing themselves and each other.
“The focus for the next four days is to be ready for Melbourne Heart and win that game on Saturday.”
Kasey Wehrman joins Wheelhouse and Deans in saying the players- focus is on the season opener this Saturday at Ausgrid Stadium.
“It is a little bit of a shock but it is back to business for us straight away,” Wehrman said when asked about the events of the day.
“We are paid to do a job and at the moment we are just concentrating and making sure we give our best performance against Melbourne Heart.
“The players do not have any say in who comes and goes or who we buy or sell so if you are lucky enough to get a contract with this Club you fulfill it the best way you can and we will be doing that this weekend the same way we have gone about it for the last six months.
“It is done now and we need to get on with the job and make sure we give these Melbourne boys a good game on Saturday.
“My main role is to make sure the rest of these boys heads are focused on this weekend and we don-t waste the hard pre-season where we are in a position where everyone is fit and healthy.”
