Jets fly over Phoenix in pre-season friendly

Newcastle Jets continue to impress ahead of the new Hyundai A-League season after a 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix in their pre-season friendly on Saturday.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

*In an entertaining clash at Jack McLaughlan Oval in Edgeworth, both teams played some thrilling attacking football.

*The Jets took the lead through Roy O’Donovan on 27 minutes following a quick throw-in which sent the Irishman clear.

*Phoenix equalised just after the hour, with new signing Andrija Kaludjerovic peeling off his marker to head home after a pin-point cross from Adam Parkhouse.

*The Jets had the final say 11 minutes from time with in-form youngster Joe Champness finishing off a slick counter-attack with a unstoppable strike.
