Newcastle Jets members vented their frustration at the past but were pleased with many of the ideas put forward at Thursday night’s members’ forum.
The night was hosted by FFA’s Kyle Patterson and featured a panel of three: Head of A-League Damien de Bohun, Jets CEO Mitchell Murphy and former Jets player David Lowe.
A special guest on the night was new Jets coaching duo Scott Miller and his assistant Jean-Paul de Marigny.
One Jets fan labelled last season as “disgusting” with many on the night agreeing it was the worst in club history.
Another supporter expressed a wish for a separate Jets identity and to move away from the Knights NRL colours and a code she described as “thugby”.
But flagged changes to the club’s kit to include gold was warmly received, as was the news of a major sponsor looming.
Jets CEO hints at colour and kit changes
“It’s been a long time come so something like this was always going to be positive,” Jets member Liam Roskell told www.a-league.com.au.
“There’s a renewed sense of optimism … a lot of fans weren’t going to come back if the previous owner and manager were still around.”
“It’s important that people got a say,” added Chad Griffith.
“It’s a great step in rebuilding with the community which has been severely lacking in recent years. The community now needs to let the club get on with putting a roster together.
“It’s great to see the club being rebuilt from the ground up.”
“I’m looking forward to the Round of 32 in the FFA Cup so we can improve on last year,” said Todd Giles, who brought to the forum a selection of Newcastle shirts from the last 30 or so years.
“Last year was the worst season for the region so it should be easy to improve on from there.
“And the new coach what he said was fantastic.
“This was the most in-depth forum we’ve had and they should definitely have more.”
