Newcastle Jets have confirmed Harry Kewell will not be going to the Hunter club after Kewell knocked back the deal they had put to him.

Kewell, who has been at the centre of speculation surrounding his future this week has been strongly linked with a move to Melbourne Heart, only to have the announcement put back several times due to the player reportedly not being available for said announcement.

In a statement on their club website the Jets confirmed they had been in talks with the Aussie star, but he ulitmately decided against signing with them.

“Harry-s credentials speak for themselves and we were obviously interested in discussing the possibility of him joining the Jets,” CEO Robbie Middleby said.

“Negotiations progressed to an offer, but unfortunately Harry deemed it to be unsuitable for him and his family.

“We hope to see him playing in the A-League, because having players of his calibre competing in our league benefits all clubs.”

Kewell, who had a brief stint in Qatar with Al Gharafa as an injury replacement for Marc Bresciano is desperate to find a club so he can get back into the Socceroos squad for Brazil 2014.
