Newcastle Jets boss to step down as Ninja A-League head coach: Details

Newcastle Jets have confirmed Ryan Campbell will step down from his role as the club’s Ninja A-League head coach.

Campbell took charge of the club on an interim basis following the departure of former coach Gary Van Egmond in 2024 before he was then appointed on a full-time basis.

Not only would Campbell go on to secure finals football that season with the Jets but the head coach would also secure the club’s first ever finals win as he guided them to the Ninja A-League Semi-Finals, before they were ultimately knocked out by Premiers Melbourne City.

In an off-season that then saw plenty of change at the club, Campbell lost both of his first-choice strikers as both Melina Ayres and Sarina Bolden departed and the club ultimately struggled this season as they succumbed to an 11th-placed finish.

“Ryan has done a tremendous job in stepping up to the A-League environment as Coach for the past season,” said Jets CEO Tain Drinkwater.

“He has played a pivotal role in continuing to develop some of our homegrown Academy players and helping with their transition to the first team.

“We thank him for his dedication and efforts in the A-League space and look forward to his continued commitment to the Jets Academy nurturing our region’s future stars.”

Campbell will continue in his role as Technical Director of the Newcastle Jets Girls Academy, having achieved great success in developing several homegrown players into the A-League environment and the future Matildas Program.

The Jets will now move to appoint a new coach ahead of the new A-League Women’s season.
