Newcastle Jets fans will have the chance to see the 20011/2012 Hyundai A-League squad in action when they host Sydney FC in an official pre-season match in Cessnock on Saturday September 17.
The traditional F3 derby between Newcastle and Sydney will exit the freeway for wine country with the Jets electing to play the home leg of their pre-season campaign in football heartland – Cessnock.
“We can-t wait to head to Cessnock, it is such a strong breeding ground for the world game,” said CEO Robbie Middleby today.
“The Jets want the community to know how much we value and need their support and we want to see a capacity crowd at Cessnock Sports Ground,” he said.
“We are also appreciative of the support of Cessnock City Council. They have been instrumental in making this match possible for the Coalfields local community.”
In keeping with the Jets philosophy of involving the local football community the pre-match will feature Northern NSW going head to head with a Queensland side, adding inter-state rivalry to the day.
“The rivalry between Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC is real and strong, especially as they have several ex-Jets in their squad. It-s always great to get a win over them and the pre-season will be no different, we will be going for the win as always,” he aadded.
The Jets have ensured family friendly prices are available for the match with access to all spectator areas of the ground, at general admission prices.
