Jessika Nash named March Nominee for the Young Footballer of the Year

16-year-old Canberra United defender Jessika Nash earned a nomination for Young Footballer of the Year, after featuring in three wins and a draw for the Green Machine throughout the month of March.

The central defender played her first Westfield W-League season in 2020/21. Having captained the Junior Matildas at the 2019 AFC U16 Women’s Championship in Thailand, Nash showed experience beyond her years to filter into the Canberra squad and not miss a beat in her maiden Westfield W-League campaign.

In March, Nash contributed to two clean sheets as Canberra went unbeaten in four games to seal a Finals Series berth.

She began the month by playing back-to-back games with a 100% success rate in aerial duels as Canberra beat both Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory. She then featured in a 1-0 win over Newcastle Jets, before contributing to a second consecutive clean sheet performance in a 0-0 draw with Premiers Sydney FC, which sewed up Canberra’s place in the post-season.

Receiving the Young Footballer of the Year nomination for March, 2021 is just another achievement which Nash will add to her ever-growing footballing CV at the conclusion of her memorable debut Westfield W-League campaign.
