Melbourne Victory has released defender Jason Geria to pursue his career in Japan, the club announced.
The 24-year-old is set to join JEF United in J2, and a transfer fee for his services has been agreed.
Geria started on the bench in Friday night’s Melbourne Derby.
“We’re obviously very disappointed to lose another senior player from our squad, but Jason was adamant this was an opportunity that he wanted to pursue,” said head coach Kevin Muscat.
“Jason has established himself as a regular member of our starting XI and will be missed, but we’re starting to build some solid momentum now and it’s important we push on.”
Geria made over 130 first team appearances for Melbourne Victory since joining the club in 2012 and will depart for Japan in the coming days.
