Adelaide United’s Scott Jamieson has been named the Hyundai A-League Rising Star winner for 2008/09, continuing an unbelievable journey for the former Bolton Wanderers defender.
The 20-year-old held off a strong field of rookies to win the coveted gong at the A-League awards in Sydney on Monday night, less than a week after debuting for the Socceroos.
“I didn’t really expect it so I’m very proud and very happy,” Jamieson said.
“There are some fantastic players in there and anyone who was nominated could have won it.”
“I’m just happy to be at these awards and to being playing first-team football, so to win an award like this is something I didn’t really think about.”
Jamieson admits his head is still spinning after a year in which he played his first A-League game, appeared in the Asian Champions League and represented his country.
Now he wants a grand final victory to top it all off.
“It’s coming pretty thick and fast. Earning my first cap at this age is something I didn’t really think about, so hopefully the next step is to win the grand final,” he said.
“That’s what I am concentrating on now. I’m pretty confident we can do it.”
