He may have been lining up for the opposition on Sunday night, but current Melbourne City defender Scott Jamieson was still embraced by Western Sydney Wanderers supporters after their entertaining 1-1 draw.
Jamieson, who grew up in Western Sydney, became a firm fan favourite with the Wanderers in 2015/16 before a move to Sweden ultimately led him to City this season.
The 29-year-old’s first match against his old club may have been a frustrating one with his side squandering a number of chances to take all three points, but Jamieson was buoyed by an emotional reunion with his former supporter base after the game.
“I’m not going to hide it, I’m a Western Sydney boy,” he told reporters on Sunday night.
“I loved my time there.
“I said on Twitter last night I got a great reception from the fans which made me a bit emotional because as I said I don’t really get that kind of emotion, I usually get boos and stuff from the other teams, the other five teams I’ve had.
“I really enjoyed my time there.
“Being a Western Sydney boy I feel like I have that form of connection … but I wanted to win tonight, [so I’m] disappointed.”

The travelling Wanderers supporter base invited the City man to their section after the game; an invitation he was all too happy to take up.
“They asked me over which was a bit emotional because as I said I haven’t really had that kind of reception from another team,” he said.
