‘It was all Ally’: Latsko praises delivery for Semi Final winning goal

Sydney FC’s Veronica Latsko has downplayed her role in the match-winning goal in her side’s Westfield W-League Semi Final triumph – instead lavishing praise on the assist from Ally Green.

The American attacker touched home in the 14th minute on the back of a pin-point delivery from Green to secure the Sky Blues a hard-fought 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory on Saturday afternoon.

The 24-year-old’s third goal of the campaign lifts Ante Juric’s side to their third straight Westfield W-League Grand Final and a chance at back-to-back Champions titles.

However, despite proving the hero on paper for her side, Latsko was determined to share the accolades post-match.

“Ally Green put it on a platter for me. Literally all I had to do was toe-poke it in,” she told Fox Sports.

“I got really lucky with the timing and she literally put it on a platter for me three yards out from the goal, so it was all Ally.”

The Victory made Sydney work for their win at Epping Stadium as the Sky Blues thwarted a number of raids on their goal as the hosts edged the shot count 15-9 without finding the back of the net.

Latsko explained the defensive resilience of her side was testament to their adaptability across their formation.

“Was it the cleanest (performance)? No. But it shows how gritty we can be’

“We can be a beautifully passing team or we can get down and just work hard and just grind through ninety minutes

“It just shows how much hard work and how much love this team has to put into the game.

The rough and tumble of the contest also saw Latsko well in the wars – on the receiving end of a ball to the head in the first half that saw her assessed by club medical staff before continuing.

“I had my teammates to help me physically, and metaphorically I guess, to pick me up off the field and tell me to keep running,” she said.

“Head injuries are nothing to take lightly and our medical staff didn’t, they made sure that I was okay good to go.”
