The fans have spoken! 19yo Phoenix academy graduate voted Player of the Month for February

Teenage Wellington Phoenix defender Isaac Hughes has been named Isuzu UTE A-League Fan Player of the Month for February, after a public vote.

Hughes, 19, was one of three Phoenix defenders nominated for the monthly award alongside Scott Wootton and Finn Surman, and the Wellington trio finished top three on the fan vote as the Phoenix faithful showed up in numbers to help the young defender clinch the February Player of the Month honours.

Throughout the 2023-24 Isuzu UTE A-League season, 10 players are selected every month on a shortlist for you, the fans, to select from in voting for Player of the Month.

The 10 nominees are selected via the Opta Index, with the 10 highest-scoring players in the index nominated each month.

Hughes, Surman and Wootton were joined in February’s top 10 by Filip Kurto, Lachlan Brook, Mikael Doka, Thomas Waddingham, Adam Taggart, Valère Germain and Nicolas Milanovic.

Hughes had the sixth-highest Opta Index score (75.6) of eligible players for the February fan-voted award.

The Phoenix academy graduate featured in four games throughout the month for the ‘Nix, contributing to two clean sheets and conceding just two goals, helping his team beat Macarthur FC and Western United and draw to Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory.
