The only sour note to Sydney FC’s dominant Westfield FFA Cup quarter final win over Melbourne City last week were injuries to skipper Alex Brosque and left-back Michael Zullo.
The pair both failed to finish the match, hobbling off with leg injuries.
Both Brosque and Zullo give an update on their fitness and hopes of being fit for the start of the Hyundai A-League season.
ALEX BROSQUE
“I’m pretty good. I’m not yet out on the field but I’m doing jogging and some cross training stuff. I’ll be aiming to be back for our pre-season game next week to get one more match in before the season starts,” the Sky Blues skipper said.
“I think the first two days were quite painful and sore but the extent of the injury isn’t too bad. The swelling has come down, it’s feeling a lot freer to walk on and move on so it’s good.
“The first couple of days after was just icing and resting and the physio working in the inflammation to get it away, they did a good job. No way will I miss round one, I’ll be right for that.
MICHAEL ZULLO
“It’s feeling good, it was a lot better than I first thought. I was worried at the start when it first happened but it’s settled down quickly and I hope to be training with the team in the next couple of days,” the defender said.
“I’m just doing some straight line running and some laps and then I’ll start more physical running sessions, stepping it up to changing directions and back into full training by the end of the week.
“At the start it was sore but the medical team has been giving me some good treatment. It’s reacted really well, it’s not a big deal just a minor one.
“It’s up to the physio when I’ll be ready but 100% no problems for round one.”
The Sky Blues open their Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season with a Big Blue grand final replay against Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, October 7.
