Melbourne Victory have confirmed that winger Mitch Austin has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, likely ruling him out for the rest of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season.
The injury occurred during Friday’s training session on Gosch’s Paddock, with scans later revealing the full extent of the damage to his right knee.
Austin and the club’s medical staff will consult surgeons early next week.
Austin made a bright start to his second season at Melbourne Victory, making five appearances and scoring a late equaliser away to Adelaide United in a 2-all draw in Round 3.
With Austin now on the long-term injury list the club will consider the possibility of signing an injury replacement for the remainder of the campaign.
