Injury curtails Coe’s campaign

Melbourne Victory has confirmed goalkeeper Nathan Coe will miss the remainder of the Hyundai A-League season due to injury.

Coe  suffered a back injury in the Round 24 match against Wellington Phoenix  at Westpac Stadium on April 5 and will undergo surgery to relieve pressure on an impinged nerve in Melbourne on Friday.

Melbourne Victory football operations manager Paul Trimboli said the injury was a devastating outcome for the club but more particularly for Coe, who has kept seven clean sheets this season.

“Sustaining an injury like this at any stage of the season is disappointing for the player first and foremost, and also the club, and so close to finals makes it even more difficult for everyone,” Trimboli said.

“As the playing group focuses on the final game of the season this Sunday and the upcoming Finals Series, their thoughts will also be with Nathan as he recovers from surgery.

“The recovery time for this type of surgery is in the vicinity of three months so we will ensure that Nathan’s health and wellbeing is at the forefront of our minds during this lengthy recovery period.”

The club is continuing to consider its options in relation to signing a replacement player for the remainder of the season.
