Injury blow: Reds star set for extended layoff

Adelaide United has confirmed that versatile defender Michael Marrone has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Marrone suffered the injury midway through the second half of the Reds’ 3-1 Grand Final triumph over Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday evening. 

The recovery time for such an injury is six to nine months.

Speaking on Marrone’s injury, the Club’s doctor, Dr James Illic, said: “We discussed surgery and conservative treatment, but the decision made with Michael, the Adelaide United Medical Staff, and the surgeon was to proceed with surgery.”
