Newcastle Jets’ ambitions of securing an Hyundai A-League play-off place were dealt a blow with the news midfielder Fabio Vignaroli has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Italian marquee player was forced off during the first-half of Jets’ 3-2 win over Gold Coast United yesterday and subsequent scans showed Vignaroli has damaged the Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his right knee as well as sustaining a small fracture and cartilage damage.

Despite facing up to 12 months on the sidelines, the 33-year-old was philosophical about the situation.

“One player doesn’t make a team.” he said.

“So Newcastle will go on, hopefully winning as the team has been, unfortunately I’ll just have to watch their progress from the grandstand.”

“It’s unfortunate but one has to accept that injuries such as this can be a part of professional sport.”

“It is very disappointing though, particularly as I would have loved to have helped the team during this time in the season as we move toward the finals.”
