Injury blow: Adelaide star out ‘for indefinite period’

Adelaide United has been dealt a huge blow with confirmation on Monday Spanish forward Sergio Cirio will miss an indefinite period of the season with a knee injury.

Cirio suffered medial ligament damage to his right knee after a heavy challenge from Western Sydney Wanderers defender Jack Clisby in the Reds’ 2-1 loss on Friday night.

The incident occurred in the opening minute and while Cirio tried valiantly to play, he was soon replaced.

Scans over the weekend confirmed the worst for Cirio, who is set to miss up to 10 weeks, the Reds confirmed in a club statement

It comes just a few weeks after he returned from a fractured fibula sustained in pre-season.

The injury is a major concern for Reds boss Gui Amor, who is also currently without Argentine playmaker Marcelo Carrusca.

The winless champions next face rivals Melbourne Victory at Coopers Stadium on Saturday night.
