Central Coast captain Nick Montgomery believes the Mariners can still mount a late Hyundai A-League Finals Series charge if they maintain the form of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Perth Glory.
The hosts conjured a sparkling second-half to secure just their third win of the season, the last of which came against the same opposition over two months ago.

Having kept their first clean sheet since that encounter, the Mariners remain an outside chance for post-season action as they sit seven points shy of the top six.
“We could have had a lot more points on the board but I think everyone can see where we’re going [with] our style of play,” Montgomery told Fox Sports.
“If we can defend like that every week, for me we can match anybody in the league.
“Our form has been getting better and better. I think today was just reward for the boys’ effort.
“We’ve just got to keep going and keep believing because if we put a run of results together anything can happen in this league.”
Montgomery’s frosty reception for former teammate Liam Reddy was a point of interest throughout the match but the Mariners skipper was diplomatic about the Glory goalkeeper’s dismissal for cutting down Trent Buhagiar.
“It’s disappointing for them because he’s been fantastic for them all season to be honest,” he said.
“There’s no doubt it would have gone in and it would have been 3-0. I’m just delighted for the boys today.”
