VICTORY OLD BOYS TURN THE TABLES
Former Melbourne Victory players Andrew Nabbout and Daniel Georgievski chomped at the hand that used to feed them on Thursday night.
Georgievski scored a stunning opener and Nabbout bagged a brace as Newcastle ran out 4-1 winners at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Victory’s cause was severely hampered when Mark Milligan was shown a straight red card in the 28th minute.
PERTH END AWAY DAY BLUES
Glory had lost their previous seven away games before overcoming ten-man Melbourne City 3-1 on Friday night.
After Mitch Nichols and Ross McCormack exchanged goals in the first half-hour, Osama Malik saw red for a studs-up challenge which led to a Perth penalty, converted by Xavi Torres.
Mitch Mallia came off the bench to grab Glory’s third and consign City to a third loss in their last four matches.
DE SILVA DAZZLES ACROSS THE DITCH
Daniel De Silva was the star of Central Coast’s impressive 4-1 win over the Phoenix in Wellington.
The young starlet pulled the strings for the Mariners, scoring his side’s crucial second after a first-half own goal had put the visitors ahead.
Andrew Hoole’s superb top-corner strike increased the advantage and while Dario Vidosic gave Wellington hope with a 70th minute header, Central Coast substitute Trent Buhagiar iced the cake late on.
HOME COMFORTS CONTINUE FOR SYDNEY FC
Sydney FC capped their Westfield FFA Cup-winning week with a 20th straight unbeaten outing at Allianz Stadium.
A David Carney strike and Adrian Mierzejewski’s penalty gave the Sky Blues a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes with Seb Ryall adding a third with ten minutes remaining.
Both sides finished the game with ten men after Avraam Papadopoulos and Matt Simon were shown straight red cards following a second half altercation.
Jack Hingert’s late goal was only a consolation for Roar.
JOSEP’S UNHAPPY HOMECOMING
Josep Gombau endured a miserable return to his former club with Ryan Kitto’s brace giving Adelaide United a 2-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Spaniard watched as his captain Robert Cornthwaite was sent off for two yellow cards inside the first 20 minutes.
Baba Diawara missed a first-half penalty, but Kitto spared his blushes with a goal either side of the break.
Adelaide’s Ben Garrucio became the sixth player to receive a round 8 red card when he was sent off with 13 minutes remaining.
